Travel to Katherine
Travel to Katherine located 300 km south of Darwin the vast expanse of the Katherine region that stretches from the Western Australian border to the remote eastern coastline. Its string of 13 separate rugged gorges along 50 km of the Katherine River have been carved out by torrential summer rains cutting through cliffs of red sandstone which are over 1,650 million years old. The region takes in numerous aboriginal communities and has been home for the Jawoyn Aboriginals who have used the river for a rich source of food. The best way to explore the park is by boat or canoe where you can drift between the sandstone walls experiencing the silence and grandeur of this magnificent area.
